Biography

Stefan believes there is no one-size fits all solution when it comes to assurance services. This approach lets Stefan work with his clients to achieve their individual goals.

Stefan joined Mowery & Schoenfeld in November 2016, bringing with him over seven years of experience. He leads audits and assurance services for contractors, real estate developers, manufacturers, distributors and service providers. Stefan specializes in mergers and acquisitions, and is active in the search fund community.

Stefan and his family are always up for a new adventure or a night at home entertaining friends. He looks forward most to trips to the zoo or a visit to his hometown with his wife and children.

Q.

How did you choose accounting?

Not having any accounting related classes in high school, it was a conversation with my dad roughly 15 years ago on a drive back from Florida that sparked my interest in a career in accounting. My first semester of college was spent as a political science major with emphasis on pre-law, but that never seemed to fit. It didn’t take long after talking to my dad to figure out that my skill set would be better suited for something in business, and more specifically, accounting. My major was officially switched just before the end of my first semester at NIU and I haven’t looked back.

In your own words, what is your job description?

My job is to help my team and my clients grow and succeed together through the audit and assurance process. That starts with understanding my clients’ needs, developing a plan to help them achieve their goals, and coaching my team to be successful with the client in the execution of that plan. My goal is to make audit and assurance less of a requirement and more of a value-added service.

What is your hidden talent?

Certified master car-packer. Becoming a parent has allowed me the opportunity to exercise and improve my car packing skills exponentially.
